Workplace Education Manitoba (WEM) is a nonprofit organization and a leader in flexible workplace training and assessment across Manitoba.
Together with our organizations under MEET, we connect Manitobans with coordinated training and support that builds skills and creates opportunities across the province.
Our Story
First, a Little History
WEM
Founded in 1991, WEM saw the need to provide tailored training not only to individuals but also to businesses and communities needing help with workplace skills.
Using the Skills for Success framework, our talented team developed programs and skills-check tools to identify gaps in skills training and to offer the best plan to help people get to where they want to be.
In 2000, we partnered with Apprenticeship Manitoba, Indigenous Nations, and Unions to create programs that help people move to the next step in their trades training.
WPLAR
Started in 2001, Workplace Recognizing Prior Learning (WPLAR) helped us make a final connection for our learners and partners. We developed programming around using people’s existing knowledge to showcase their skills and how they can apply them to their future goals.
ESM
In 2005, we discovered there was an educational need in the province for people who had either never had a job or had been out of the job market for a while. With our expert team, we developed programs and classes to help them transition to the new working world.

Today, all our organizations, WEM, ESM, & WPLAR, fall under Manitoba Employment Essentials Training (MEET).
We have a staff of over 40 people across the province, helping Manitobans achieve the dreams they’re reaching for. Our amazing team helps change people’s lives every day, and we’re proud of the work we do supporting Manitoba!

Without Our Supporters
Partnerships are the key to WEM’s success. Over the past 35 years, WEM has developed and delivered programs to help unemployed individuals become ready for employment. We work with all levels of government and various organizations to help Manitobans move forward.
Working with Apprenticeship Manitoba, Indigenous Nations and trades training programs, WEM has delivered innovative programming to support apprentices who are just starting out, in the midst of their technical training or looking to pass the Interprovincial exam.
The Government of Canada has also funded WEM for many years, supporting 24 projects over the years, from Igniting the Power Within to workplace research projects.

With 10 regionally located WEM Centres in Pembina Valley, Southeast, Westman, Interlake Parkland, Winnipeg and the North, we deliver regionally relevant programs.
